The Academy was rather kind to the queer community this year...

Well done. Awarding Penn's performance was the icing on the cake. This is nice contrition for Brokeback's snub, I must say. Congrats to the filmmakers who made Milk (including Oscar winners tonight Sean Penn, pictured, and writer Dustin Lance Black.)

Heath Ledger's win proves there is a God. This was a rivetting Oscars ceremony this year! I especially loved the new way of handing out the acting awards! Bravo!

I love Slumdog Millionaire! See it as soon as you can!

Click here for all the winners.

Good night.

Crash was outright better than Brokeback Mountain.

just like Slumdog was outright better than Milk.

Just cuz movies have a gay theme doesnt make them better than other movies.

Penn won not because he played a gay character, but because people who knew Harvey Milk said they couldnt tell the difference between the two.

Taking something as unrelated as Prop 8 to justify an award to Penn, in my opinion, undermines his performance.

Penn's win was a wonderful, justified, surprise---and Dustin's speech was extremely touching. What a great message!

At first I wasn't sure about new way of handing out the acting awards because I really liked seeing clips of the performances, but then the mini-tributes for each of the actors work was so touching. It grew on me quickly.

Crash was more like a made-for-TV movie than a Best Picture winner. Brokeback will still be referenced long after Crash is forgotten.

But I do agree that Slumdog was better than Milk, although Milk will always have a special place in my heart.

Yes I felt the same way about the new way to present acting Oscars at first, but it was nice. I did like those clips too though. I'm sure it'll be debated now whether to keep doing it this way - as long as they can get 20 previous winners to present like that per year it'll be do-able.
